Is this as good as a link, or maybe even better? I don't understand how this impacts on a site. can someone explain this to me?

    Yes, please someone explain this.

I recently had to 301 redirect a mini site to a page on one of my big sites. Google updated the mini site is still ranking and now my page on my big site is ranking for the keywords as well.

Closed down some smaller sites and redirected them to a new one.
Havent had any problems so far and as kush says the new sites has picked up the rankings.
    Pretty interesting.
Also, im using the redirect plugin to mask my aff url and track clicks.
As far as i know that shouldent be a prob!
    Any redirecting experts here.

Planning to make some radical changes, moving some sites (one of them a large one) to directories on a new domain... scary to think how google might react, will report.

If its a 301 redirect its seo friendly because the link juice is transferred to the redirected domain.

Update: old site no longer in search engines and new site has taken over the old site rankings.

if you using wordpress its a beautiful plugin called Simple 301 Redirects

with anything else you should go with .htaccess file

thanks, so just to be clear, is this correct?

if site x is 303'd to site y, then site y will pick up site x's keywords. so if x's domain name is Poker Rakeback: Get Cash Back from Playing Poker Online then site y will pick up juice for the keyword "rakeback". There doesn't have to be any content previously on site x. indeed site x may be just a new domain and never had a site on there.

how much "juice" will site y get? the same as a high pr link or what?

(as you can probably tell I am new to all this SEO stuff so sorry if the questions are very basic)

    Thanks for your help

of course the content must be related. I don't much about "juice" but I do know the new site will take over the old site rankings in the search engines.

For example, my old site ranked 2nd for its main keyword and then i 301 redirected the site to a page on my big site and not that page ranks 2nd for that keyword.

    I hope that helped.
