Default Implications of changing my site name?

    Hey guys

I'm trying to improve my rankings for certain key terms but I've realised that because my site is .co.uk I'm never going to fair well in countries out side of the UK (or so I understand it)?

So I've bought a .org domain name and want to know if changing it will improve on the work that I have already done? Is .org the same coveragewise as say .com?

Also how will this impact on my current UK rankings when I change the name? From what I understand (not very much) I'll have to 301 re direct from the old site to the new one (I have no real idea how to do that but I'm sure I can get someone to figure it out for me)

Any advice on this would be a great help, maybe if you've done something like this before.

This whole being an affiliate was very unplanned and has been a super steep learning curve but I'm making progress by actually generating some money finally and want to keep that momentum going.

    Thanks in advance.

im pretty sure it will effect you're uk rankings unless you specify uk in google webmaster account which would defeat the purpose of switching to .org

also, if you've started making money with the site already i'd stay there, improve the site, and improve your rankings in uk where there's plenty of money and you wont have to deal with the headache of advertising whether or not rooms accept USA players or not.

i would think uk traffic is much easier to convert than other traffic at the moment

    Hey Broker,

I did this before with a casino site and it took about a month for the new one to 'catch' up on the old name, the pr and all moved with it what you'll have to do is 301 the old site to the new pages pretty easy to do if you need a hand gimmie a shout also let google know in the webmaster tools part. Id wait until v3 is out though... id say go for it you have a good site that should be doing good and you can always change it back.

It might not be as big of a deal to have a .co.uk as you think. I don't know for sure, as I don't personally have any .co.uk extensions. But when I do a Google search for "internet poker" internet-poker.co.uk comes up #2 (used to be #1 for a long time) and I am in the US.

Maybe you should just let it roll for a while, and see what happens. Guess it depends on a lot of different things though.
