    Default Redirection advice

    Hi

I have just changed the format of my URLs so that they all include digits.

So now every post that I have previously posted has a new url. I was wondering is it possible to automatically redirect all the old urls to the new urls.

Plus the pages still seem to be appearing on the old urls, which I dont understand.

Just wondering if anyone has any advice.

    Thanks
    Gerry

Don't use a wordpress plugin for redirects - if your using wordpress to build your sites thats fine but don't rely on an automated tool that can easily break and cause your redirects to fail. It does happen. plugins arent the end all be all solution and if you want it done right or value your content at all create your redirects manually. A pain in the ass - YES. But at least you will know that your redirects will work as intended and don't have to worry about them. I worked with someone else whose plugin failed and it sucks.

and besides it really doesn't take long to redirect a site, even done manually. Just upload it in chunks and test test test and you should be fine. Anyway thought I would post since someone has already asked is it wordpress - because that's likely what's gonna come next - Theres a plugin for that

It would probably help if you posted what you have set for your permalinks for the second problem your having and the wordpress generated bits from your htaccess.

This is the type of plug-in that blew up my first site. It takes 2 minutes to learn how to redirect everything on your own.

I'll have some free time tomorrow if you want to hit me up. I can walk you through the process if you haven't gotten help by then.

    By stop working.

When wordpress updates, some plugins don't work anymore. Some people update their plguins but others stop working on it and leave the users looking for another plugin.

main cms updates but the modules or plug ins are not updated so basiclly they have to be upgraded also.
if they are a 3rd party may even take along time to be updated

lol sorry. Let me try to make this a bit more clear.

When wordpress release a new update. Some plugins stop working.

Some developers update their plugin to work with the new wordpress release and other developers stop working on the plugin which leaves the plugin users to look for another plugin that will work with new wordpress release.

I know some webmasters that still uses wordpress 2.3 because the developer of a plugin they really need won't update it. They even offered the developer money to update the plugin and he said no. So they stuck with wordpress 2.3.

Yeah i fully understand the compatibility issues, but what was said was that a plugin blew up a site. That's the bit i don't understand and am interested in.
