    Default Spain vs Portugal Bets

Portugal is paying $3.85 for a win in this game.

Surely they have a decent chance of winning?

I haven't been that impressed with Spain and they will be without key midfielder Xabi Alonso which is huge imo.

    Thoughts?

Whats the point in betting on this world cup? Has anything actually gone to plan?

Quite surprised at the price of Portugal so because of this post I went for some correct score bets. 1-0, 2-0 to Portugal and a 1-1 cover.

    Uh, come on Portugal then

I take it you mean Italy, France, and England going out early? To be honest I don't think this was a huge shock at all.

No. France and Italy went out at the group stage and didn't win a single game between them. You're talking two teams from the world cup 06 final! I'd hardly say that was expected.

Neither was sarzoky having to intervene in the french team and missing a training session!!

Neither was USA topping England's group. England were 3rd favourites for the tournament I think -so are you saying england finishing 2nd in one of the easiest groups and then crashing out in second round was expected?

Spain were hyped up to win this tournament by a mile. They started with a 1-0 loss to switzerland of all teams, and scratched to top their group after an edgy 2-1 win against chile. Predictable?

Argentina had a horrrific qualifying campaign and barely made it to south africa. Now they are joint favourites and look the best team by far.

Last of all I've got to metion tht ridiculous jubulani ball. Fifa have openly aknowledged it has problems, and just about every single person has criticised it including maradona, capello, lippi, messi etc. it changes games.

Sorry pokeraussie. I just can't beleive this wc has been anything other than ridiculous.

Yes it was expected - by anyone who was not in England and not suffering from the "Great Delusion" fostered on the public by the tabliods and media hype.

That's the same SPain that crashed out of the 2009 Confederations Cup in South Africa too?

That's Argentina with Messi and Tevez right? Hardly rubbish and they qualified in 4th - still ahead of the playoff spot.

BTW - Brazil look better in my opinion.

Not surprisingly - Adidas sponsored players think it's fine - Nike sponsored players think its rubbish - and the rest of us have no idea. All marketing hype.

Response to Gooner (cba with quotes):

England overhyped? Yes they are overhyped but they still have a very strong team and everyone knew they were classic semi-finalists at minimum. A group they should have topped by some distance and an easy route to the semi's to face brazil. England were also one of the best teams in qualifying, scored more goals than other national team, and up to that point looked champion potential. A world class striker in Rooney and two of the best attacking midfielders in the world.

Spain beatable and inconsistent? That's the same Spanish team that have won 47 of their last 52 games or something ridiculous like that? They are the best team and collective group of individuals to ever play in a major tournament imo.

Argentina have Messi and Tevez? omfg that means they'll win the world cup. In qualifiers they scored just one more goal than Bolivia and Ecuador, and the same as Venezuala. Messi scored 4 in 20 games, hardly golden boot quality.

Lastly that jubalani hype is not marketing hype. nearly every manager has complained about it.

    @addz123

The moment you stop having such high expectations for your WC football team is the moment they may start doing something. You reckon England was third favorites to win this WC? You have to be kidding me! fwiw I am Italian and had zero expectations of them doing anything this world cup, they are in a rebuilding phase and generally always get off to a slow start. France were lucky to even qualify so I seriously have no idea what you are talking about.

Ok, maybe Spain's loss to Switzerland was unexpected, but all in all, the big favorites before it even started like Argentina, Brazil, Spain are still having a crack.
