Default Queens in interesting spot pre-flop

UTG opens to $6, one call, then a player 3 bets to $40. Folds around to me in the blinds and I have QQ.

His 3 bet, although it's always going to be for value, didn't seem that strong to me. Also based on bet sizing I don't think you can discount JJ/AK so based on this range I decided to shove (I''m thinking AA and possibly KK is 3-betting a lesser amount to get some action). Was pretty much putting him on exactly JJ/AK.

The 3-bettor was playing with around $150. The UTG opener was playing with like $230 and I had him covered.

    Thoughts?

Not much info on both players as to their style here, but I'd say your shove was correct. I am sure your hand does not have to worry much about the UTG player, and your assumption about the 3bettor is probably right. Any hand that dominates you (read: AA, KK) would have rather tried to either sweeten the pot a bit, or to trap the UTG.
AA and KK would correctly try to isolate the UTG, but the bet would then have been lower.
I would assume the UTG folded, 3bettor called with AK and he spiked an overpair?

If that's exactly his range, you're crushing 65-35 and there's $52 in the middle already. Easy-peasy. I imagine he would also then play QQ this way, but that doesn't really change the numbers. There are probably also a few random bluffs in there for a bit of extra buffer.

I don't know about his range; I definitely have seen players 3B large with KK because "they just know an ace is coming on the flop". I've also seen people over-blast with AA when it's multiway because they don't want to get a string of callers.

However, even if you put half of the AA-KK combos in his range, you're still a slight favorite, roughly 54-46.

I think this hand is only a problem if you're a lot deeper.

UTG/caller folded, the 3bettor folded the same hand.

I agree. I also think AQ could be 3betting in this spot.
