I was a walk on punter at penn state when I was on exchange there, I feel extremely privileged to have met and been trained by him. He was extremely nice guy and very sorry to hear of his passing.

Only trained/tried out, not sure of the correct terminology. I was playing rugby for PSU too, and managed to dislocate my shoulder in our 2nd game of the season, which kind of ruined everything!!! That said, in the trials, I managed the punt the ball 60 yards, and joepa was pretty impressed!

It was very cool though as got to know the guys on the team, which opened the door to some awesome parties!

Yea, my cousin played volleyball there, Mom played tennis, seems like everyone in my family went to PSU. Would you have made the team if you didn't get hurt?

There was a possibility yes, although a slim one. The punter at the time (mid 2000) had some injury as did there reserve punter, so they were certainly looking for someone, but at best I assume I could have been like a reserve punter.

However I had no idea how to play the game, though did play rugby and Aussie football for many years before that. I had also been in contact with some ex pro Aussie rules players who were punting professionally in the nfl (one guy called Darren Bennett) and he was helping me learn very quickly!

That said due to my shoulder I was able to enjoy the tailgate parties!!!!
