Kevin, love the site! I'd be interested in some results of newsletter signups, if you wouldn't mind sharing. Not raw numbers, just increase vs. previous design.

Let me know what snippets you want to pull from the blog and I'll post the code for you (for example: excerpts, title, date, etc).

Love the new site. You could indeed split test the submit buttons' colors, but keep them different from the template - indeed to make them stand out more. Also missing call to actions on the pages, preferably above the fold.

Thanks for all the input guys.

I am in the middle of getting a split test set up with Aweber for the button color right now, should be up in about 20 minutes.

Also I do need to get some calls to action in there above the fold, which I will work on this week. Right now I am focusing on getting quality content on the pages first.

    Keep the input coming!

Looks good, although I must say I loved the logo on the old site!

The site looks great! With 500+ pages indexed in google your site is well on its way to dominating the sports betting niche.
May I ask how you are doing with mailing ? How does it compare to banners/ in text call to actions as far as conversions goes?

Thanks. For something like I have set up there in the sidebar I haven't had the best results (about 1-2% of visitors signing up). But I have had some better success with newsletter forms in the middle of content and lightbox pop ups.

I would say getting an e-mail is almost easier than getting someone to click on a banner.

It's looks good - light, chatty, friendly. Initial impression is very good.
As far as sign design goes - I'd give this top marks.

However, is there any reason why you are targetting the sports betting novice with the tone and style of your site? I'm no expert on American sports - but the articles were at the low end sports betting information wise even for me.

The novice bettor is very much the thin end of the market profit-wise

I really am sort of a novice bettor, or at least still learning A LOT. I have been betting on sports for a while yeah, but nothing close to professionally at all - always just been for fun.

I guess I still have a lot to learn.

If it's the sports betting level that you are comfortable with - then it will show through well in your content and writing and will hit your target market.

However, you might just see that financially, the returns are not quite what you are hoping for initially. Much like poker or casino, the newbie or low-roller market does tend to be the low end value wise.

The layout is top notch - and so I'd assumed that you'd chosen that low end segment specifically - and was keen to find out why ...

Just to reiterate what others have already said ... very nice layout !!
