Default Site Review Twitter Niche Poker Site

    Hello all,

New to the forums, was wondering if some of you could help me out with a site review. I have been working very hard with my coder to get it to where it is now, so please go easy on me

    The site is: Tablebeeps

It currently has no content, or key words, or affiliate ads. I wanted to get the functionality of the site down first before I add in the other stuff.

I came up with the idea for my site when I saw so many poker players using twitter for their poker updates. I currently follow a ton of poker players on twitter. I found it frustrating trying to figure out who was in what tournament, how much their chip stack was etc. So I decided to create a twitter site that does all that for the poker player.

With my site, users can post "beeps" instead of tweets to anyone who is interested. Users tag themselves in specific events, give brief hand swing descriptions, and input chip stack information. The site organizes all the information neatly and concisely for anybody to look at. If multiple people are "beeping" in the same event and posting chip counts, my site ranks them accordingly based off of their updates.

What I think is neat about my site is that you can link your twitter account to your TableBeeps account. So when you post a beep at TableBeeps, it automatically posts the same message directly to your twitter with a shortened link back to the users profile page that looks like this: (http://tblbp.it/user_name) This allows people who may not be familiar with my site, still be able to see their favorite poker players updates at the same place they always have - twitter!

The major purpose is for users to send updates right from their mobile phone while playing in a live poker tournament. The mobile version of my site is not live yet. It will hopefully be ready in the next week or two. No it's not going to be an App yet... But the mobile version will function very closely to the regular site.

We will also be implementing following capabilities and commenting messages on users beeps in future updates.

Would love to know what your thoughts are on appearance, functionality, how to monetize the site, etc.

    Thank you for your time!

I kind of like it. I'm afraid that you have an uphill battle trying to get people to post on twitter AND your site. I see that you have implemented a "post to twitter" functionality on the site, have you thought about allowing people to post FROM twitter to your site. This can be implemented fairly easily using twitter's api and hash tags (#pokerbeep, or whatever).

I think the name is kind of silly but I think the words "twitter" and "tweet" are just as silly.

Hey Mike, thanks for the comments. I have not yet thought about making it so posts from twitter would cross-post to my site, i didn't know that was even possible. I will have to look into that.

I see what you're saying about trying to get people to post on both twitter and my site. But that's why I implemented the "post to twitter" option that way users wouldn't necessarily have to post on both sites.

Would some of you mind testing the "post to twitter" functionality for me? Right now I don't have enough test users with twitter accounts to give it a run for me. I did have 1 test user say that it did not cross-post to twitter for the user. But when I do it, it posts right to my twitter account no problem. Could you also tell me your twitter account when you test it so I can check to see if it is working properly?

Thanks, more comments / critiques welcome!

EDIT: Auto-posting worked for me. Just signed up and tested.
You'll find me on LinkedIn, Twitter and Google+.

Thanks Peter! do you mind PMing me or posting your twitter name jus so I can see that it showed up correctly. Or you can just tell me if a shortened URL appeared next to your tweet that looked like: http://tblbp.it/peter ?

How do you like the site in general? Does it have potential in your opinion? What needs to be improved?

I deleted it immediately. But yes it did show up.

I have no interest in the service to be honest, I was just testing it for you to see if the auto-post functionality was working.

Anybody have any ideas for how I could possibly eventually monetize the site?

I think it's a great idea and the site looks good. I think it would look better though if you used that green felt background image solely for the background and not the whole page. Perhaps make the middle section a white background, or some how break it up.

I think that would give a much more professional look. I realize that has nothing to do with usability, but from a visual perspective it might make the tweets stand out more.

    Just my 2 cents.
