Least painful way to move site to a new domain?

I personally would not move to the .com if the .net site was established. Just redirect the .com to the.net and keep doing what you've been doing - I really don't think the .net has any inherent handicap (I might have a different opinion if it was a .info or something).

Anyhow, I know that's not what you're asking, just offering my opinion.

I also agree with Aussie, should do a htaccess rewrite. I don't trust hosts to handle it properly.
