Default Which state was the first? Need some clarification please.

I was under the impression that the first 3 states to legalize online poker/gambling went like this:

    Delaware (2012)
    Nevada (2/2013)
    New Jersey (2/2013)

But as I was doing my research tonight I noticed several sites stating that Nevada was the first, and that they legalized it in 2011.

What I'm seeing though, is that they got approval from the Nevada Gaming Control Board, not that it was signed into law. There is a difference -- right?

Could someone help clear this up for me?

    Edit to add:

This is where I'm getting confused:

Legal Nevada Poker Sites - Nevada Online Poker and Casinos -- Claims Nevada was the first (12/2011)

Delaware Legalizes Online Poker | Pokerfuse Online Poker News -- Says Delaware is 2nd state, but post is dated 2012.

Nevada legalizes first interstate online poker | Reuters -- Nevada is first, but dated 2/2013.

Nevada was the first state to offer real money online poker.

    Are you sure?

I thought Delaware where the first to actually offer online gambling. I am 100% sure that first legal online casinos in NJ could start in December 2013. and that Delaware started 1-2 months before. But don't remember Nevada dates.

Maybe the mix is between "when they passed the law" to "when it actually happened"?

The confusion seems to be when the game was legalized and when it went live in each state.

Online gaming launch dates where players could actually gamble:

Nevada - April 30, 2013 (opened to all that day when Ultimate Poker launched without any prior announcement or beta)

    Delaware - October 31, 2013 (beta, opened to all November 8, 2013 +/- a day)

New Jersey - November 21, 2013 (beta/test period, some sites opened to public within a day or two but official public date was 11/26)

In 2011, the Nevada GCB setup online poker regulations but that wasn't law. That was just a framework for regulations.

You've also forgot the fact that Washington D.C. also briefly legalized but then backed out.

Washington D.C. is unlikely to legalize online gambling. But if federal legislation is passed, most likely it will be included in such a bill.

Marijuana is legal for recreational use in only like 3 US states.
