Sites with black backgrounds

I have been thinking about this lately for some reason. Is there anyone out there who actually thinks that sites, blogs, or forums with black backgrounds and white/gray print actually looks good.

Maybe it's just be being picky, I dunno. But sites with this much black are such a turnoff to me.... Any other thoughts.

yeah i agree, although some sites make it work. its all personal prefernce but i prefer red or blue colours

Don't like them much either but I've seen pro web design companies offering up these exact same colours to clients. They're getting paid big $$'s to do this too.

Personally, I hate white or light-colored backgrounds on sites, which is why the majority of my websites are dark colored backgrounds.

I think Poker Sites - Best US Poker Sites and Free Poker Website Reviews really did it right. Other then that I usually don't like dark background sites.

The black looks good, but is such a strain on this old boys eyes.

Black has been over used in the last year or so. I agree with Skinski, it looks good but it makes my eyes bleed, especially when used with red or blue text.

I prefer to use neutral colors behind the text and save the black for dramatic effect. I'm thrilled with the use of black on my rakeback site. The black makes the logo pop and draws attention to the red nav bar.

Jeremy gets the same effect by using gray and white as primary colors. I love the way the blues pop off the page!

Jeremy is referring to a site where the text is on top of the black background (i.e. white text, which comes across as a bit garish looking on a black background in most instances)

So Aced doesn't really fit this situation, because their text is still on a white background.
