The Google CSE is not good if you want quick indexing. I tried the lowest level of their premium service to see if it would, indeed, index "on demand" within 24 hours as they claim. It didn't. I went back and forth with their support for about 15 emails before I gave up.
If you want something more sophisticated then you could try out something like this: Sphinx - Free open-source SQL full-text search engine. It takes a tech-savvy person to set it up.
