wordpress - multi language

I remember reading something about using Wordpress as a multi-language site had some problems in terms of SEO.

Anyone who can help me here - what is the best approach.

1. Run the different languages in the same installation

2. Make a different installation on the same domain, but in a subfolder for each language version

The language versions are to be hosted in subdirectories like:

Example Web Page - UK version
http://www.example.com/swedish content/ - Swedish Content

Etc.

Hi Pokerboy! I think the best way to do it is make a different installation of Wordpress on a subfolder (http://mysite.com/se) or subdomain (http://se.mysite.com). Both options work very well and you shouldn't have SEO problems with the multiple versions of your site.

I would choose approach 2. Approach1 will probably consist of some custom programming to work.

Choose http://www.example.com/lang/ if you have a none country bound domain like .com, .org, .net or .nu. Domains like .de is bound to Germany and has a hard time to rank in other countries. If you have .de, you should consider register new domains for these languages.

You can set specific languages in Webmaster tools for subfolder and non-country bound domains.
