    Default Redirection Issues

    Hi guys, I can't EVER get redirection to work if the url contains any special characters like "?".

    This leads to me not being able to redirect dynamic urls to new more seo friendly urls, and is causing me a sick headache.

    Being that I can't do htaccess redirects myself, and I have to accomplish on several wordpress sites - might anyone have any suggestions?

    I do not know the answer to this (other than manually editing your htaccess). I use Redirection and I've not ran into this, but it's good info to know. Honestly, have you send an e-mail to the guy that runs the plug in. I bet he could get it fixed pretty fast and would appreciate you reporting the bug.

    Good idea actually, although I think htaccess might be my only option as that wordpress plugin was built to redirect wordpress urls, not URLS from my old crappy CMS

    I was able to redirect URL with ? in it using this plugin. URL was something like: index.php?option=com_content&Itemid=115&id=56&task =blogcategory redirected to an SEO url. Works fine.

    MPC, I'm working with the same type of url structure - but I've had this problem now using redirection across several sites so I don't get what the deal is. I've had no problems redirecting other urls, but specifically any url with any special character in it (in my case question marks) seem to be the only difference I can nail down.

    Any ideas? This is a problem that is a real recurring pain in the ass for me now for all of 2009.

    What is the page that comes up when you view the redirected page?

    What do you mean? If I go and click and old dynamic url after redirecting it just keeps going to the old page - causing me problems because the new urls are getting indexed with the same content.

    Good thing is most of the sites I"m still having problems on are small ones, so I might just be in a worst case scenario of waiting awhile on these 15 pages while adding 50 more.

    Doesn't seem like anyone has any ideas on this to go the easy way and use redirection, I'll probably just get everything all together and hire a coder to do all my htaccess files in one shot.

    I'm really not sure MJ. Are you using the latest version? I have Ver 2.1.13 installed.

    I don't know if you have anything in your htaccess that might screw up the redirection. (rewrite rules or something). This is what my file has in it:

    # BEGIN WordPress
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
    </IfModule>

    # END WordPress

    (backup your original if you are going to change it). I'd try just changing to this just to see if that does anything. Again, my knowledge f htaccess is very limited so this may not help.
