php redirects

This morning on the PAL site, I'd noticed that the link to a given affiliate program was redirected from a go/affiliate.php style page to the affiliate site.

I'm curious, what is the benefit of doing this, versus having a link pointing directly to the affiliate website?

Can no follow and cloak affiliate links. Also, if the link changes you only have to update the file. Saves a lot of time.

some one page sites which rank for something like pokerroom x download also redirect players to another page first. One reason is to track clicks, and another is to improve your Google Analytics Bounce Rate.

I do it mainly to track clicks. But ease of updating is a factor too.
