    Default Permalinks/Categories Question

So I am starting a small sports blog to host my sports related rants. I am setting up the structure of the site now and have a couple questions.

Ok so say I want the structure for a single post to be xxxx.com/baseball/San-francisco-Giants/post-name/

Now I want the xxxx.com/baseball/ to be a page that I can edit content on. So its a category but a page as well. I am ok with xxxx.com/baseball/San-Francisco-giants/ page to just list giants related content like a normal wordpress category (if I could I would love to be able to edit this page as well).

Can what I am trying to do be done? If so...how?

Sure, but it's a little more complicated than you may realize.

The default category page would show as xxxx.com/category/baseball/, so you would need to use this plugin to make the word "category" disappear in the url.

After that, it's just a matter of setting up category templates

To make that easier you can just change the 'category' to 'baseball' since I don't imagine that would change. The only thing that would change is the baseball team/random-post/

I will mess with it right now, but have not been able to nest posts very well. Even when changing the category over to poker for a /poker/blog/ the posts still show up like abcdefg.com/this-random-post/

Maybe easier to set up as pages? Wonder if the pages can be changed to come up on the homepage like posts?

I got something that might meet you halfway......

If you change your 'category' to baseball in your permalinks file and then have a team as your category then you would have a url that looked like this: abcdefg.com/baseball/team

Then change your custom structure to /%category%/%post_name%/ and your blog url's will look like abcedfg.com/team/random-post/

Not exactly like you want it, but not bad and only about 2 mins worth of work as opposed to going into your category and archive files

for example: http://www.rakebackatcarbonpoker.com/poker/blog/ <----poker would be 'baseball' and 'blog' would be the team and then: rakebackatcarbonpoker.com/blog/carbon-poker-reload-bonus-for-july/ <----'blog' would be team and then you would have your random post

/%category%/%postname% is what I have my permalinks set on... The result url-wise is http://mysite.com/blog/poker-news/title
    or http://mysite.com/blog/poker-strategy/title

My blog is housed in the wordpress folder, but posts to a different folder. Instruct the blog to post in the baseball folder if you have intentions of talking baseball only. You can do this via the "general settings" screen in dashboard. Change the Blog Address (URL) and it will give you the structure you're looking for. You'll have to move and change index.php and htaccess though.

I typically dont, just tried it to help brandon out real quick. Although if I do blog or something with a bunch of different categories i might just so everything is a bit neater. But the only category on that site will be 'poker' so not worried about the url/title much.

That's how one site of mine is set up, as the front part of the site is html, while the blog sits on the back and is wordpress driven. I built that site before figuring out wordpress can be used for an entire site...

Why not just add the plugin, drop the category all together and get EXACTLY what you want?
