Wordpress Structure Question

I always set my permalinks structure to /%category%/%postname%/

Say you were starting a new online poker site and you wanted the categories poker news and poker bonuses but you didn't want the category page to show up like a bog when you link to then eg. domain.com/poker-news

Is it ok to make a page located at domain.com/poker-news and then use a static page which you update with links to the rest of the content within that category.

Basically is making a category name and page name the same a problem?

I'd be looking for an automated solution.

Create a new page template "news-template" and code that page to show the latest posts from that category.

Or you could use the "category killer" plugin, but that will just show the "archive" for that category and you'd need to make sure you don't have categories "no-indexed" as a lot of people do.

The page template is the best solution as it allows you to show the posts how you want and format the page or rotate ads or links.

Should add - testing the same thing with tags as well as categories in wordpress producing unique wordpress indexed pages from same.

Have never agreed with no-indexing tags or categories and rightly or wrongly, I think this is one aspect of the future of dynamic wordpress SEO and isn't really being covered by the wp codex or SEO gurus at present
