Wordpress - show article only in subcategory

My site has categories like this

*Poker Rooms

*Poker Strategy
- Basic strategies
- Rules
- Starting Hands
- Advanced strategies
- Professional strategies

*Poker Videos


On "*Poker Strategy", I would like to have one single page giving an overview of the the three subcategories (e.g. describing subjects covered in basic, advanced and professional strategies with links to these three subcategories).

The problem now is, that when I post an article such as "Starting Hands", the article is displayed both in the subcategory "Basic strategies" AND in the category "*Poker Strategy".

Is there a plugin that enables me to post an article only in the sub-category OR is there maybe a plugin that makes a category like "*Poker Strategy" static?

You could change the parent category to a static page.

Ex - Change Poker Strategy from a category to a page.

Then you could write your information on the three sub-categories on the page.

You would need to post the "Recent Posts" code for each of the categories onto the page so that the most recent posts show up on that page. Alternatively you could also link each "post" under the corresponding "sub-category" although this would take more time, but it allows you to have every "post" linked under the correct sub-category on the page.

That way you wouldn't need to use sub-categories and you would only need to use parent categories and static pages.

Not sure if that will work for what you're trying to do.

As for only posting on sub-categories and not parent categories, I'm not too sure as I haven't tried doing it in the past.

On the issue of posting to a sub-category only, I'm fairly sure you can do that by just checking the sub-category for the individual post and making sure that the parent category isn't checked. At least, that is how I am doing it, and I have a parent category with zero posts.

I use a specific category template for the parent category, but Scotts idea of using a page is probably better.

Elsidney - that's what I would imagine how WP works, unfortunately I have all the articles from sub-categories in the main category as well.

Anyway, I have now read dozens of posts from people with the same problem and I finally found the solution, which I am glad to share:
