Default Site Search - Anything Beat Google?

Just a quick Q... about to grab the Google site search tool (paid version) and wanted to ask whether anyone has found a better alternative?? Site in is created in dreamweaver - I'm willing to pay for no ads and decent configurability...

    Thanks, Mark

I looked in to it a little bit but I couldn't find anything as good or as easy to implement as Google's CSE. I think the only reason I looked elsewhere was just for the sake of not using Google for whatever reason, but from my limited knowledge it was the best one I came across.

I used to use this though and it worked well, but I haven't really tested either of them enough to compare. Zoom Website Search Engine - Add search to a website, intranet or CD

Thanks Greg, similar thought process with the big G... but I guess since they already own my soul a couple of hundred bucks won't hurt!

Doesn't Yahoo offer a similar thing?

The paid site search tools should all be about equally as good as each other. However, they may have limits you should be aware of. It's common for these services to index no more than a few thousand pages, especially where a more expensive option (like Google's Search Appliance) is available for "enterprise" accounts.

I use Google custom search on a non-poker site (e-commerce) and I did look around for a while, but couldn't find anything better. However, be sure to renew on time each year. A few months ago I noticed that an advert for one of my competitors was showing up on the search results. I was like "WTF!" - but it turned out the card I had paid on had expired so it was not renewed on time. But I got it sorted, and it really is a neat tool.
