Wordpress does this automatically. You'll notice that if you publish an article and then imediately go to ping o matic they will tell you to "hold your horses"

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think WP pings everytime you even edit a page, regardless of page or post. Correct?

The only time I've ever noticed my pages being pinged is when I linked to them from another page. There is an option to turn it on/off above where the option is to turn on/off the comments on each page.
I don't know the answer, but I've noticed that adding new pages doesn't get Google to my site like posts do.
As a recent example, I have a minisite that isn't updated very often. I added around 5 new pages of content and checked a few days later and the cache date was still from a couple of weeks ago, and none of the new pages were indexed.
So I added a short post to see if that would help and later that day all the new pages and the post were indexed.
Maybe it's a coincidence![]()
Right now, I'm updating a larger site with pages - I've edited a bunch of pages, added 1 last night, and 3 today so far. None of the pages are indexed yet and homepage cache date is Dec. 30.
I'm going to add a post this evening and see what happens.
I noticed that as well when I was regularly using Wordpress so no coincidence at all in my opinion.
In fact, what I tried to do was make a page and then try to make a post that was relevant in someway. For example, make a PokerStars review and the maybe make a 'Januaray PokerStars Promotions' post and link to the review as well as any other relevant pages. I noticed my inner pages being indexed much faster than if I didn't make a post and link to them.
This is exactly why I ask this question. Pages are supposed to ping exactly like posts, but I and a few others aren't seeing the same results as adding posts.
I have never seen Wordpress ping for pages -- only for posts. Our senior Web engineer referred me to this document, which says: "Update Services are tools you can use to let other people know you've updated your blog. WordPress automatically notifies popular Update Services that you've updated your blog by sending a XML-RPC ping each time you create or update a post. ..."
