    Default Any PS experts around?

Hiya, I'm after a bit of help with Photoshop if possible.

Basically I want to remove a dark background from one of my logos, so that I'm just left with the logo itself.

Normally, I'd try to do that with the Magic Wand, but it leaves things a bit ragged and doesn't really do the job properly.

Is there a better, more efficient way of achieving the same effect? Something to do with changing layer levels maybe?

    Cheers,

My first thoughts are to either play with the tolerance so that the wand picks up less or more. If it's a bit ragged you could try expanding and contracting the selection via Select > Modify > Expand (and then do it again but contract it). That seems like a bit of a dodgy fix though so that might not work.

If that doesn't work out well then you could always draw around it with the pen tool, but that could be very little fun if the logo is complex. Could you post a link to the logo?

Yeah, of course. I'm just trying to remove the background to the logo on www.bestcasinoonline.com.

I lost the original PSD file which is a real pain, and while I could try re-creating the effect, I'd really like to have a transparent version that looks the same as the logo on the site.

    Any thoughts welcome

That's a tricky logo to get on its own seeing as the gold dissolves in to the black. I couldn't get the logo off without taking some of it away or leaving some dark black behind. As sirtiner said I think recreating it or getting someone to recreate it would be the best option. Make sure you find out what the font is as well.

the font looks like Trajan Pro. Its a capital font by default but using the shift key on the B and C makes the two different font sizes.

What was the background color originally? If it was something that is not in the logo itself you can do an "alpha to color"

If you post a link to the original I will take a crack at it.

Just as a hint, when trying to render something it is best to feather the edges. Then, if it is still a little jagged you can select the logo, shrink the selection by about 1-2px then invert the selection and then apply a slight blur. This will smooth those edges for you.
